Minimarts Must Sell Liquor Selectively

Minimart owners asked to be more selective in selling liquor in the capital. According to Bylaw No. 8/2007 on Public Order, the sale of liquor must not be done arbitrarily.

"I emphasize, the maximum permissible level of alcohol is under 5 percent. People have to show ID Card aged over 18 years old if they want to buy. The minimart must have the CCTV," said Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, on the sidelines of a plenary meeting with Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD), Tuesday (1/20).

As for the sale of alcohol in the top five percent in the capital, should only be done in certain places.

"We just restrict its sales, for instance the alcohol level above 18 percent, can they (minimart) allowed selling 50 percent? Of course, they can.  At the cafe, club, restaurant, there are rules. But I don't remember it," he expressed.

Basuki added, such bylaw does not intended to alcohol below 5 percent. While for the sale of liquor above 18 percent is set in the Trade Minister's regulation.
